Moderator: Welcome to Talk Football Expert chat!
Moderator: Zico will be joining the chatroom in a few minutes.

Cenko43: Hi Zico. First and foremost, thank you for all that you have accomplished so far with Fenerbahçe? I think the one question on everyone's mind is, will you be staying with us? Please consider to do so, you have done a great job so far!!!
Zico: I think it will be hard for me to stay. Talks so far have not been the best. There are questions about my technical staff and I am a bit sad that the entire situation came up 15 days before the end of my contract. After two seasons there I thought they would have given me a bit more time.

Sgt Spurs: Do you believe in a quota system for foreign players?
Zico: Quota systems are good if you think of how the influx of foreigners dent the national team. England have put three teams in the Champions League semi-finals but the national team are not going to EURO 2008. There are too many foreign players around. I am in favour of freedom of movement etc, but there has to be some agreement between clubs and federations.

Aqif Chelsea: who was your childhood hero football-wise?
Zico: My childhood hero was Dida, a great player for Flamengo (the team I support) and Brazil. Pelé was supposed to be his substitute in the 1958 World Cup. But my brothers, Edu and Antunes, were the ones I mirrored myself on when I was a teenager. Edu, by the way, has been working with me ever since I started as a coach. He is a precious observer of the game and the players.

pedro_slbenfica: Zico, as a player you were one of the world's greatest. Not many players could stop you in your game. If you had to pick one player who gave you the hardest game in your playing career, who was he and what game was it in?
Zico: The hardest European opponent I have ever faced was Lothar Matthäus, who could read the game and also knew how to play. But there was a Brazilian guy called Pintinho who always gave me nightmares. Both were loyal opponents. I have faced players who seemed to have been on the pitch just to kick me.

Sgt Spurs: Which current player is most like you?
Zico: I never liked comparisons. There are players with similar characteristics. Kaká, for example, likes to go forward and perhaps is even faster than I was. But things have changed. Riquelme also reminds me of some stuff I used to do, like being around the strikers. Today this type of position is almost extinct...

MehmetBayrak: Lots of transfer rumors are going around in Turkey for Fenerbahçe. Several top class players like Andriy Shevchenko, Samuel Eto'o and Wagner Love are said to be in talks with Fenerbahçe. Do you think it is likely that such top class players will come to Istanbul?
Zico: I know nothing about transfers. I have written a report about the needs for the team, but we have not discussed anything.

ramis: hi mr zico...i would like to ask that when manchester united was playing against chelsea what were you thinking???....who was going to win?
Zico: The Champions League final was a better game than I expected. I think that Ronaldo's goal made it more exciting. It was a very good game, but not as thrilling as Liverpool x Milan in 2005. Manchester United was one of the teams I reckoned since the start that could do it. They are a great side and did not have problems with injuries.
Zico: Chelsea could have won it. It all seemed to be in place for them. I remember that even when they were playing bad things managed to work out. Shame that they were so unfortunate yesterday.
Zico: About Terry's shot, I think he slipped after kicking the ball, don't really think that it mattered that much. Van de Sar slipped much more...

Önder S.: You are the fans' favourite coach since you are an honest person and value the club's history. So honestly, what do you think was the major problem in Fenerbahçe's failure in Super Lig even though the team had the advantage before the Galatasaray game?
Zico: Fenerbahçe had problems at the start of the season with injuries and also had to mind the Champions League. We dropped many points in the first rounds and they cost us dear at the end. We also missed Carlos at the most important time of the season, he broke his leg. Appiah barely played in the season. But I am proud of what we achieved and there's no shame in losing to Galatasaray.

ercazip: What do you think about the Turkish media?
Zico: The Turkish media are not so different. Perhaps they hype things up a bit more, even after actually having more access to the club. I didn't have any problems out of the ordinary.

zafer77: do u believe that fenerbahçe has shown better performance than galatasaray when they won the uefa cup?
Zico: Zafer, I don't remember Galatasaray's run, but they did win. If we were talking about the same competition, perhaps we could compare. Fenerbahçe can be proud of what happened. We lost to one of the finalists of the Champions League.

BaTMaN_07: What's the main weakness in Fenerbahçe football team at last year's Champions League and Super League?
Zico: Fenerbahçe need more experience. The more you take part in big competitions, the more you learn. Perhaps the club should also think in a more adventurous way when playing away. But there is time to learn.

Sgt Spurs: Having played in one of the most stylistic international teams in the world to date, do you feel that modern day football lacks the fluency and creativity that yourself and the Brazil team of the 70's and 80's had?
Zico: Each era is different. Nowadays it is more difficult to play because of enhancements in physical fitness and increased physical contact. It's not to say that in my time one could be careless in terms of shape, but a great player nowadays needs to be an athlete more than ever.

Sgt Spurs: Which current player would you most like to play alongside?
Zico: It would be great to have guys like Messi, Ronaldinho, Riquelme and Drogba by my side.

ismail.kls: You were one of the best players of your generation, what was your secret? Zico: I had a gift for football but always worked on it. You have to practise everything everyday. There were times I would take 60 free-kicks in training sessions. Talent needs to be worked on.

Aqif Chelsea: who is the best manager in the world?
Zico: There are different styles of managing and coaching. I enjoy watching Manchester United, Roma, Arsenal. Their managers don't always mind the result that much. You also have guys like Mourinho who is unemployed. Although I think this situation is mostly his choice.

Zico: It was a privilege to take part in the Champions League with Fenerbahçe. The passion of the fans in Turkey will always be good memories, although it sometimes gets out of control. I am grateful to Fenerbahçe for the experience of managing in Europe and I am happy with what I have done for the club. They can still do well with this mentality.
Zico: Thank you very much for your questions. It is a joy to have your work appreciated, although what happened this season was a collective merit. It's important for Brazilian managers to do well in Europe. Take care.
